Back-to-School Outreach

"Serving for the needs of others"

Our mission is to ease the burden of families struggling to send their children back to school. Our goal is to show them the love and compassion of Jesus Christ while meeting a need. If YOU, or your company, would like to donate to this non-profit organization, or volunteer your time, please contact Alicia Motton at 248-943-5357. You CAN make a difference in the life of a local child. Every individual, organization, or company that donates - whether it be funds or sweat-equity will be featured on our website. The Back to School Outreach began each year at the church, located at 20210 Schoenherr Rd., Detroit, Michigan. Each year the Outreach gives away FREE backpacks, school supplies, clothing and socks & underwear.

Bringing the children and youth together for a backpack blessing at the start of a new school year is meant to engage the kids where they are at, in the concrete reality of their lives, and narrate that God is with them.

We provided backpacks filled with necessary school supplies to children living in our local community and surrounding areas so they will be better equipped to learn. When children have their own school supplies it builds self-esteem and also frees up family resources for other essentials such as food, medicine and utilities.

Each backpack included:
  • Quality backpack
  • Binder
  • Notebook
  • Folders
  • Filler paper
  • Pencil pouch
  • Pens
  • Pencils
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Eraser
  • Ruler
  • Crayons
  • Glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Note of encouragement

This is our prayer: “Bless these children and youth and their backpacks as they begin another school year. Keep them from danger and from fear. Guide them in the ways of justice and truth and when they are in new places and with new people, help them to remember that you have written their names on the palm of your hand. Let them always know that they are your children in the world, we ask this in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN”

Making a "Kingdom" Difference

What does it mean to make a "Kingdom" difference in our public schools? When we help a child learn to read, we're making a Kingdom difference. When we help raise graduation rates, we're making a Kingdom difference. When we encourage a child who doesn't think he or she has any value, we're making a Kingdom difference. And certainly, when a student or a teacher begins to experience and comprehend the love of Christ for them, we're making a Kingdom difference.

The best way to share our faith in public schools is to love the kids, teachers, and administrators with the same love that God has shown to us, unconditional and sacrificial. Often times, it is our actions that speak louder than our words anyway. Instead of initiating spiritual conversations, let's seek to compel others to curiosity through their experience of our love and actions! Besides ... the best time to talk about our faith is usually after we've been asked.

When a passionate follower of Christ embraces loving and serving the needs of others, he or she becomes a powerful tool for impacting hearts, families, and communities with the gospel.
